Stitchwort and bluebells
The weather in the UK has been foul recently, with far more rain than is decent. On the other hand, the current Spring flowers are spectacular this year, both in quantity and in distribution. I walked around the edge of a woodland in rural Cambridgeshire last week, and in a clearing as you enter there was this breathtaking swathe of stitchwort and bluebells. A little further on, there were a few early purple orchids as well. Until lockdown, I had never walked this particular route; it is one of my favourites now. It seems fitting to start a new wildflower blog in the Springtime, when the flora are at their peak; There will be photos from a suburban fringe, from open agricultural land, from the woodland understorey as here, and possibly from the new wildflower patch in our garden. For anyone who is interested, I take most of my photos with a phone camera (Samsung A23) rather than with a dedicated camera and they do tend to be opportunistic rather than planned.
