A pinch of wild garlic

A cluster of ramson flowers photographed close up

This is one of my very favourite spring flowers. Wild garlic, aka ramsons, grows in damp woodland areas; there seems to be a lot more of it than usual this year, and there has been a heck of a lot of rain. I'm not going to say that this is cause and effect, but...

Like many plants, it has a plethora of common names - it is often called bears' garlic. The Latin name of the plant (Allium ursinum) bears witness to that.

This is a truly aromatic plant; the leaves and flowers are edible, and make very tasty pesto.  I can vouch for the fact that it only takes a couple of the flowers to flavour a stir fry.
